27 Weeks!

It’s a dreary and rainy day here in Chapel Hill, so I figured it was the perfect time to share a little bump update!

Weeks: 27 (where did this basketball come from?!)

27 weeks

Weight gain: Still in the 12-15 lbs range.

What I’m wearing: It’s officially feeling like fall here (finally), so I’ve been wearing my go-to stretchy Athleta tanks underneath shirts for an extra layer. I also splurged and bought two pairs of designer maternity jeans, because I am kind of over wearing leggings every. single. day. I’ve been wearing my TOMS shoes (not chilly enough for boots yet) and sandals on warmer days.

Hotel in Asheville

Sleep: We’ve had the windows open for about a week now, and that cool and crisp air is definitely helping my sleep and giving me that “refreshed” feeling in the morning.

Colin and I

Miss anything? This weather has me wanting to stock up on all of the tasty porters and stouts! Ugh!

Baby movement: Lots and lots of kicks and wiggles.

Currently craving: Salads, believe it or not. And cheese and chocolate, so I guess those cancel out the salads…?

Colin is also a fan of sweets...

Colin is also a fan of sweets…

Annoyances and symptoms: Heartburn and achy feet.

Belly button: Still an innie, but very shallow…

Colin's face is everything in this photo.

Colin’s face is everything in this photo.

Emotions: I had a nightmare last night that my car was stolen WITH COLIN STILL INSIDE. So yeah. That was terrifying. Anyone care to analyze that dream?!

Best moment in the last week: We snuck away for an impromptu weekend in Asheville as a family of three – and it was a blast!

Looking forward to: More beautiful fall weather!

Anyone have fun plans this season? Fall is my absolute favorite time to travel!

Asheville Recap & Life Lately

Whew, where has the time gone?

How is it already May?

Better yet, how is it May 11th?!

Bah!

Asheville was wonderful. We enjoyed countless local beers, the Biltmore Estate gardens in full bloom, beautiful historic accommodations, and of course, amazing food. Here are some photos from our Asheville adventure!

If you’ve got a free weekend this summer, make your way to Asheville and be sure keep in mind where to…

STAY // Rankin House Inn or the 1900 Inn on Montford.

EAT // Cúrate, Tupelo Honey Cafe, Corner Kitchen, Table, Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria, and let’s be honest… there are far too many to list.

DRINK // Asheville Brewing Co., Hi-Wire Brewing, Green Man Brewery, Twin Leaf Brewery, Burial Beer Co., and if you’re into cocktails… Nightbell (owned by Head Chef Katie Button of Cúrate).

DO // Brewery tours, visit the Biltmore Estate (and don’t forget to do the wine tasting and enjoy live music on the lawn in Antler Hill Village), check the calendar for Asheville Community Theatre, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, or just kick it at your awesome B&B.

By the way, many of you already know via Facebook… but I am very excited to announce that I am the newest sales associate at Dovecote at Fearrington Village! Yep, got engaged at Fearrington, got married at Fearrington, and now working at Fearrington. It’s basically a dream come true. I’m so thrilled to be a part of such an amazing team. Also, the beautiful peony at the top of this post is a recent Fearrington garden snap!

Enjoy your week, and stay cool!

Packing for Asheville, NC

We are so thrilled to be heading off to Asheville later this week for a long weekend getaway!

Back in February of last year, Rich and I spent a weekend there for Valentine’s Day (as an engaged couple!) and then Rich celebrated his bachelor party there back in October with the guys.

The weather should be sunny, but cool, so I’ll be dressing in casual and comfy layers. I’m taking a few favorites from my little springtime fashion roundup!

The fun, printed Aspire Ankle Pants are certainly coming along, as they are my new go-to pant for spring. Lightweight and quick-drying… what’s not to love? I’m bringing a breathable Sugar Wash Tank and a couple of scarves for layering, too.

This time around, we’ve got quite a list planned:

1. Visiting Biltmore Estate for the Dressing Downton exhibit
2. Drinking at more than half a dozen local breweries (duh)
3. Seeing A Streetcar Named Desire at Asheville Community Theatre
4. Eating a romantic Spanish dinner at Cúrate
5. Checking out some antiques shops
6. Lunching at Tupelo Honey Cafe
7. Indulging in tasty treats from Vortex Doughnuts

Hello, Weekend!

The truth is, dearest readers (few of you as there may be), I had every intention of bringing you a healthy and delicious Friday Feast recipe today.

I woke up, made my coffee, checked my emails, and then decided to try baking black bean brownies.

LET ME JUST TELL YOU.

Nope.

Not good.

Literally a #ICantEven experience.

To be fair, the recipe itself didn’t even seem very appealing. However, I was convinced that I could make a few tweaks here and there to better my chances at these brownies not tasting like straight-up, well, you know. I’m a fixer. I’m a revamper. (I don’t even know if that’s really a word.) BUT NO, I was wrong.

I know, there are loads of black bean brownie recipes lingering out there in the internet universe, but why?! You’re making BROWNIES. Sometimes I just have to tell myself, “Cassie, not everything has to be healthified.” I mean, a brownie is an indulgence. Let it be just that.

Which brings us to 11:54am and no awesome healthy brownie recipe to share. You can’t win ’em all.

Whew, with that out of the way, I can share some fun weekend plans with you!

I get to see both of my siblings this weekend! My brother is driving down from D.C. and my sister is driving up from Wilmington. Patrick and I will get some bro-sis time in this afternoon at The Roost (beer garden at Fearrington Village), with Richard joining us a bit later. It’s definitely a beautiful day for being outdoors and soaking up the sun. Tomorrow, a few of us are heading to Brewgaloo in downtown Raleigh for an afternoon of (more) beer samples and live music. Oh, and rain. …Yay!

We’ll also be celebrating something quite special — I accepted a job offer!

I’m so so so excited, and as much as I want to share the details with you, I think it’s better that I wait until after I’ve at least filled out the paperwork and officially joined the company. Ha! Seems more appropriate, right?

I hope that you have a really lovely weekend.

Oh, and if you feel the urge to bake brownies…

TREAT YO SELF.

Easter Sunday Scones

Just popping in to share some deliciousness with you!

Yesterday morning, Richard surprised me by whipping up Sticky Fingers Lemon Poppyseed Scones for brunch! These baking mixes can be found at World Market stores and are SO simple and delicious.

The mixes contain no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. And the best part: just add water and mix! You can bake them as a single round and then cut into triangles, or create individual free-form scones (as Richard did).

I decided to copy-cat my Grandmother and mix up a simple glaze that she mentioned on her blog with confectioner’s sugar and a little water — plus a squeeze of lemon juice for this batch! Dip these scones in your favorite coffee and you’re golden.

Oh, and I just adore these little wooden tulips that Richard and I brought back from St. Maarten during our honeymoon. Perfect for a springtime tablescape.

As far as decorating and dyeing eggs goes, I hard-boiled them last night, so we’re a little behind in the Marshall household. Oops! Belated Easter craft project this week, I suppose?

I hope that you had a relaxing Easter!
