A Nursery Tour

As baby boy will be crashing in mommy and daddy’s room for a while, his nursery isn’t exactly complete, but it’s close! Without further ado, here’s a little tour of what I like to call the “woodland chic” nursery!

Crib: Babyletto “Modo” (Amazon)

Crib quilt: “Nature Trail” Baby Quilt (Land of Nod)

Crib bedding: Circo “Clouds” fitted crib sheet (Target)

Changing dresser: DaVinci “Perse” Changer (Amazon) // For the record, we do NOT recommend this product as it’s very cheaply made and a complete PAIN to put together. It certainly looks nice, but looks can be deceiving… We’ll see how long it lasts.

Chair: Hudson “Swoop” Arm Chair (Target)

Lamp: Small Metallic Gold-Plated Ceramic Base (Target)

Mirror: Square “Antique Coffee” finish (Target)

Rug: Safavieh Trellis Shag (Amazon)

Swing: Fisher Price “Rainforest Friends” (Amazon)

Bookshelves: Wall-mounted picture ledge (Target)

Crib mobile: Etsy Shop PalomaEsono

Fox and botanical prints: Etsy Shop EvaJuliet

Tibetan-style flags: Handcrafted in college by yours truly 🙂

My favorite piece is definitely the precious fox and owl mobile — handmade in Toulouse, France! One can find some real gems on Etsy. I really love the pops of green and orange in this room, too. We didn’t want to paint the walls, since the light grey is such a nice neutral, so we’re using bits of color here and there to brighten up the room and make it feel cozy and welcoming.

What do you think? 🙂

39 Weeks!

Well, here we are. I’m 39 weeks (and 3 days, but who’s counting?) and we’re more than ready to meet our little baby. Richard actually has a big work project starting tomorrow, so perhaps little man can help his Daddy get out of it by deciding to grace us with his presence soon?!

We had a lovely weekend. The weather was gorgeous, so Richard was able to tackle a few yard projects. You know, things that we won’t have time for when baby IS here. Yesterday, we spent the day out and about in Raleigh. We visited the North Carolina Museum of Art where we ran into my high school art teacher, Mrs. Harrell — what a nice surprise! We also wandered around the museum park, snapped a few photos, and even witnessed a sweet couple’s engagement!

From the museum, we headed to Hillsborough Street to pick up some summertime brews from Red Line Beer & Wine, an awesome new bottle shop. And we ended up at Irregardless Cafe (no surprise there) for a delicious vegetarian dinner paired with live music.

Here’s what’s been going on this week in my pregnancy, as well as some snaps of baby’s setup in our master bedroom. I’ll be sharing nursery photos tomorrow, too!

39 Weeks

Weeks: 39 (due date is Friday!)

Maternity clothes: Nothing new, as I’m now looking at nursing tops and dresses.

Sleep: It’s been hit or miss lately. I’m getting up to pee anywhere from 2-5 times each night now, which can really ruin even a seemingly great night’s sleep. Sooo yeah.

Bedroom

Miss anything? I miss being able to tie my own shoelaces without doing crazy contortionist moves.

Movement: Still hiccuping, rolling, and stretching!

Food cravings: Peanut butter and chocolate anything.

Symptoms: Bladder pressure like woah, backaches, and minor heartburn.

Cozy corner

Belly button: Super shallow innie!

Emotions: I haven’t gotten overly-emotional once during this entire pregnancy, but Richard says that’s just not really in my nature anyways. I know I’m in for a hormonal roller coaster when this baby arrives, though!

Master bedroom

Best moment this week: Spending time at the art museum park on Sunday. It was just such a pretty day, and I loved being able to get some exploring / walking in with Richard.

Looking forward to: HOPEFULLY having this baby soon! I’d love for this to be my final “weekly” update… but I have a feeling this little man is going to be late. I guess we’ll find out soon enough!

Have a beautiful week!

Hello, Third Trimester!

So, I don’t intend on turning this into a “mommy blog”, but I would like to share weekly pregnancy updates from here until our little guy’s arrival! The first trimester crawwwwwled while the second one flew by, so I’m definitely anxious to see how the third and final will go.

29 Week Bump

Weeks: 29 (11 to go!)

Maternity clothes: I’ve been wearing my various Athleta maternity leggings almost every day for the last couple of months — so glad that it’s winter! I occasionally wear my normal jeans for a night out. I’m still fitting into them just fine when they are unbuttoned (with the hair-tie trick) and of course with my trusty BellaBand! As far as tops, I’ve been mixing maternity (mostly from Target and StitchFix) and normal loose-fitting tops, typically with an Athleta tank underneath for a little extra coverage and support.

Faux plant

Sleep: While sleep is getting more uncomfortable, I feel lucky that I’ve only had a couple of terrible nights thus far. I certainly toss from side to side (and I really miss sleeping on my stomach), but I am currently sleeping with just my normal pillow. I tried a “pregnancy (body) pillow”, and it was too overwhelming. Maybe I just move around too much to have a giant pillow engulfing me. Unfortunately, I get up at least twice each night to pee each and every night. It’s all so glamorous!

Miss anything? I mostly miss going to breweries and enjoying as many delicious craft beers as I want! I miss raw oysters, too.

Baby boy clothes

Movement: From kicks to rolls to jabs, this guy moves around every single day now. It’s really neat (and weird) to see his movements from the outside! I joked to Richard that perhaps our baby will be the next Arsenal star player!

Food cravings: Popcorn shrimp (which I so happily devoured for dinner last night) and chocolate. But when do I not crave chocolate?

Laundry basket

Symptoms: Heartburn at night and some sleepiness in the afternoon.

Belly button: Still an innie!

Emotions: Same old me — I haven’t cried or gotten emotional about anything… yet!

Best moment this week: I got to see the renovation progress on my brother’s house in downtown Raleigh on Tuesday and I treated myself to coffee and a pastry at Night Kitchen while in the area. And oh yeah, this trimester is all about that TREAT YO SELF.

Looking forward to: We start our childbirth classes at Rex Hospital on Tuesday, so I’m both excited and nervous about that. And then on Wednesday, I have a prenatal massage around lunchtime followed by an OB appt in the afternoon to see how baby is progressing!

Nursery updates

It seems like there is a pregnant blogger boom happening right now — if you’re out there, I’d love to hear how you’re feeling lately!

Snow (Ice) Day!

We woke up this morning to find our street covered in a thin layer of snow/sleet/ice — so I have an unexpected day off!

Which is good, because my parents gave strict instructions that their future grandson is not allowed on the road in these conditions! So here I am. At home, with the fireplace on, a hot cup of coffee, and a toasted and buttered English muffin. Richard is here, too. He’s doing a bit of work from home, but at least he can work in the comfort of his pajamas!

Oh, and here’s Merlin, clearly enjoying the fireplace warmth.

Merlin

The sleet is still falling, making “clicks” and “clacks” on the window panes. I popped outside to snap a few quick photos and the ice crystals crunched under my slippers. Aaaaaand I quickly headed back inside because damn, it’s cold.

Sleet

The question is, do I spend today relaxing or doing things around the house? Ha! I’m terrible at relaxing! Does anyone else have this problem? Relaxing always sounds nice, but I end up spending my “relaxation” time thinking about all of the things I should be / could be doing. Maybe I’ll do something that is both relaxing AND productive — finally go thru some cookbooks, dog-earing pages, and making corresponding grocery lists!

I did tidy up our master bathroom. Here are some before and after pics.

Bathroom

Bathroom

The bathroom countertop had essentially become a jumbled mess of my various lotions and potions, so I decided to put things where they needed to be (in the drawers and under the sink) and leave the countertop clean, crisp, and extremely minimal.

Bathroom

Bathroom

I love how this red and white amaryllis brightens up the space. There’s just something about having real flowers around… it always puts me in a better mood when I’m getting ready in the morning.

So, baby boy bump has had his one cup of morning coffee and is kicking away now. Other than that, not much else to report!

If you’re home from work today, enjoy your snow/ice day and be safe!

Updates and BIG News!

Let’s get one thing straight.

Being away from my blog for this long makes me sad. Even if I’m the only one reading it. Which, at this rate, is entirely likely.

Here’s the snapshot version of what’s happened since my last check-in (in order of occurrence):

– We found out that I’M PREGNANT! (more on this later, duh)
– We vacationed in Cape Cod
– We moved from Apex to Chapel Hill
– We vacationed in Maine
– Richard turned a different age (see babe, I love you!)
– We passed out candy on Halloween at our new house (too exciting not to share, as I love Halloween)
– I turned 26
– We spent Thanksgiving and Christmas in NC with my family
– We celebrated our one year wedding anniversary
– We rang in 2016 with great friends

All of that brings us to today!

Yes, we found out in early August that we are expecting a little baby, which was SO EXCITING! And kind of terrifying, but mostly exciting. Apparently I’ve gotten really good at torturing myself by waiting an unnecessary length of time for surprises, because after the OB anatomy ultrasound in early December, Richard and I chose to wait an extra 3 weeks to find out the gender of this little one on Christmas morning. If you haven’t already seen it, you can watch our gender reveal video here.

What’s crazy is that I’m now only a few weeks shy of entering the third trimester (I’m currently 25 weeks), so I’ve already experienced all of the SUPER FUN first trimester symptoms (nausea, complete and utter exhaustion, dizziness, and pretty much feeling hungover 24/7 without the fun of actually getting drunk). Yeah, it’s all so glamourous.

So, nesting for our little boy’s arrival has begun. The nursery is coming together nicely, and since we aren’t painting, there isn’t much left to do! Which is a relief. Here are a few snaps of the nursery progress…

And here’s what I’m looking like lately…

24 weeks

That, by the way, is my “yep, there’s definitely a baby in there” face.

Let’s just go ahead and say that this whole blogging thing is my new year’s resolution. Well, that and having a baby. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @beetandbaguette for more bump/food/home/nesting updates (see sidebar on the right).

It feels good to be back!
