Setting the Scene for Spring

I’m going to be honest with you — I’m not ready for temperatures in the 80s.

And if it has to be hot and humid in April, I’m going to need someone to get me to the coast ASAP.

But here we are.

Mid-April.

Birds chirping away.

Rain and humidity.

Bees angrily hovering over me as I water patio plants.

Pollen rapidly recreating the Dirty Thirties.

My hydrangea begging to be watered 4 times a day.

All that complaining aside, I’m so excited to share my latest Target finds with you! Our patio furniture desperately needed new cushions and some pops of color, so here’s what I decided on for the front porch.

I’m playing up the coastal colors, since our home’s exterior paint is (to me, at least) reminiscent of a Caribbean cottage! Still working on arranging plants and things, so I’ll share more photos soon. After all, I’m just dying to show you our bright yellow front door all over again.

The herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, sage, and cilantro) are all doing well — trying my best to keep them watered in this heat.

I hung out with my Mom earlier in the week and she whipped up a delicious (and simple!) warm spinach salad with quinoa, broiled shiitake mushrooms, and crumbled feta. The dressing was a classic mix of olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, and cracked black pepper. So good!

Easter Sunday Scones

Just popping in to share some deliciousness with you!

Yesterday morning, Richard surprised me by whipping up Sticky Fingers Lemon Poppyseed Scones for brunch! These baking mixes can be found at World Market stores and are SO simple and delicious.

The mixes contain no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. And the best part: just add water and mix! You can bake them as a single round and then cut into triangles, or create individual free-form scones (as Richard did).

I decided to copy-cat my Grandmother and mix up a simple glaze that she mentioned on her blog with confectioner’s sugar and a little water — plus a squeeze of lemon juice for this batch! Dip these scones in your favorite coffee and you’re golden.

Oh, and I just adore these little wooden tulips that Richard and I brought back from St. Maarten during our honeymoon. Perfect for a springtime tablescape.

As far as decorating and dyeing eggs goes, I hard-boiled them last night, so we’re a little behind in the Marshall household. Oops! Belated Easter craft project this week, I suppose?

I hope that you had a relaxing Easter!

Hiking at Umstead State Park

Whew, Friday certainly snuck up on me yesterday — and I did not have a Friday Feast to share with you!

Richard took the day off, though, so we enjoyed our own little “Friday Frolick” with a tuna salad sandwich picnic and hiking at William B. Umstead State Park.

Here are some photos from our adventure!

Month Ahead – April

Not sure why I like that quote so much… It may seem negative, but I see it as ominous. Almost like a mystery of what is to come.

Today is on-point with the sunshine, though. I’m at my desk, windows open, working on a list of April goals.

So far, I’ve got:

Eat more fresh produce.
Keep my plants alive.
Go hiking.
Run 50 miles for the month.
Travel.
Drink more water.
Declutter.

It’s hard to believe that just a few days ago, Richard and I celebrated 3 months of marriage. We celebrated that day by finally checking out the delectable treats that Duck Donuts in Cary has to offer!

YUM.

Also last month, our wedding photo book arrived!

We are so happy with it. The photos look stunning. When designing the book at Shutterfly.com, I opted for the lay-flat pages — perfect for a coffee table display!

I peppered quotes from our vows to each other throughout the book, to remind us of the romance and closeness that we felt on that special day.
