Wow, where to even begin?! So many fun things have been going on that it’s hard to know where to start. All the beer and wine I’ve been drinking for the last week probably doesn’t help my memory either.

Literally, I have drank every single day for 9 days straight.

Is this college again? (Kidding, Mom!)

(Not really kidding.)

Last night, my sister, my Mom, Richard, his Mum, and I (wow, that’s a mouthful!) met at my Mom’s parents’ house in North Raleigh for tea-time turned champagne/beer/wine/snacks/cake time. A little background: my Grandma Mary and Richard’s Mum are both from England. We just knew they’d hit it off!

We had a blast.

I love listening to their travel stories; and it was certainly a lot of fun to hear Susan and Mary talking British things! Bubble and squeak, Marmite, dripping, all of these odd-sounding food names had my Mom, sister, and I cracking up! My Grandma made an amazing Treacle and Spice Victoria Sponge Cake that was topped with a sweet frosting made with fresh orange juice. Divine.

Wow, check out the feet photo-bomb in that picture.

Kara? Those your toes?

Anyways, I’m going to have to make that cake sometime soon. It would be perfect for gently (it crumbles easily!) dipping into a frothy espresso drink. Mmmm…

I am in love with their garden. And very jealous of it.

I would have taken more photos, but I was fiddling around the garden with an iPhone in one hand and a glass of champagne in the other!

You can find my Grandmother’s blog here – she has been blogging for 8 years! Her travel photos and stories as well as her love for all things cottage quaint and shabby chic keep me coming back to read daily. My goal is to post as often as she does. Right now, she’s surely winning.

Susan leaves for the UK tomorrow afternoon. I will certainly miss having her around. It’s been such a treat showing her around the Triangle and introducing her to my family. So happy that she will be returning in December for our wedding!
